ABOUT

Historic Distinction with Modern Style

"The house is an excellent example of the Greek Revival style architecture with its wide entablature and cornice pilasters, all of which make it look like a version of a Greek Temple” -Salem Historic Commission.

Located in the heart of historic downtown Salem Massachusetts, The Amelia Payson House was originally built for Amelia and Edward Payson in 1845. The house features two well-appointed guest rooms each with private bathrooms. Creative design choices made during the 2022 renovations pair the charming history of the house with a peaceful modern palette. Just a short walk to historic sites, unique shops, area attractions, a vibrant waterfront, and distinctive dining establishments. Impeccable hospitality, luxurious rooms, and beautiful grounds make The Amelia Payson House the ultimate Salem destination.

The Amelia Payson House was highlighted in Yankee Magazine as an Editor’s Choice Award and named in Fodor’s Travel as one of the best B&Bs in Salem, citing its excellent location, short walk to the Peabody Essex Museum, the Salem Maritime National Historic site, the House of the Seven Gables, the Witch Museum, and transportation availability to Boston by Ferry (55 min) or by train (35 min). The seaside towns of Rockport and Gloucester are a short train ride/drive up the coast.

Guest Reviews

August 2022

Words cannot express what an absolutely lovely time we’ve had staying at your beautiful home. You are such a gracious hostess, and have fantastic culinary skills which made our stay as delicious as it was charming! Your attention to detail did not go unnoticed… Hermes… so luxurious! Your thoughtfulness in decorating with your guests in mind by combining historic charm with modern serenity allowed us to take a deep, relaxing breathe after long walks in the city. We can never say enough about your accommodating our special dietary needs. You went out of your way to make our stay special. Just like Sparky has a new friend in Bella, Savannah and I feel as though we are walking away with new friends in our lives and memories to share. We are honored to be your first guests, but this will not be our last visit! -Thank you, Savannah and Melinda
